In 1957, St. Luke began its
school ministry with 1 teacher and 25 students. Today, our school ministry reaches over 270 children in preschool
through grade 8 and is served by 25 faculty and staff.
St. Luke's
purpose and mission is to assist parents in educating the total child,
especially the spiritual dimension; teaching all subjects within the framework
of the Christian faith and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, leading children
to see their place in God's plan of salvation now, and preparing them for the
life to come.
Our preschool is licensed by the Michigan Dept. of Social Services, accreditated
by National Lutheran School Accreditation, and has state certified teachers. We have morning and afternoon programs for
3 and 4 year old children. The
curriculum includes "A
Jesus Time" - Bible stories, singing, praying, drama,
music, art, gym, show & tell, and story time.
St. Luke
Lutheran School serves children in Kindergarten through Grade 8, is accreditated by National Lutheran School Accreditation,
has state certified teachers, many with Master's Degrees, and is
regarded as a school of excellence in our community.
We have a 7 hour+ school day, 8:15 am - 3:30 pm, which equals or exceeds state
guidelines for instructional hours and days.
Our school curriculum includes all the subjects one would expect in an
outstanding school. Many extras such as
music, art, physical education and computers are included in our weekly
schedule. In addition, we have a weekly
chapel service, a state-of-the-art computer lab, 3 children choirs, a hand bell
choir, 2 bands, and athletic
opportunities in soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, baseball,
and track. Also, there are
enrichment programs in reading, a resource room for special learning
needs, and numerous special events and activities throughout the year.
Extended childcare is available before and after the normal school day.
St. Luke Lutheran School exists first to serve children of families holding
membership at St. Luke Lutheran Church. Other
students of any religion, race, color, national and ethnic origin are admitted
as space permits. Parents are offered
numerous opportunities to be actively involved in their child's
school life and are encouraged to be part of a very active Parent-Teacher
Organization.
